In a previous post ‘My Nokia N900 is unique with Theme Customizer‘ I mentioned I had downloaded the Symbian Anna icon pack and installed them with Theme Customizer. Well it seems the developer (cloud596) behind these wonderful icons has been busy updating them, and a new icon pack version 0-220.127.116.11-8 has been released into the ‘extra devel’ repository.Read More
Étiquette : Nokia N 900 Maemo Community
What a lovely surprise I got this morning on my Nokia N900 when I saw the usual yellow flashing notification telling me there was a new update. It was in fact a new Maemo CSSU firmware update. All 19.9MB’s of it. It has been a few weeks since the last firmware PR 18.104.22.168.8, but all updates from the CSSU are welcome.Read More
One of the unique features of my Nokia N900 is the ability to customize it. If I’m bored with a font or a theme or a background or an icon set I can simply change it by loading up Theme Customizer. Created by d-iivil from the Maemo.org community, this application is rich with features. Once installed it can be found in Settings.Read More
There is not a lot of information out there on the phone speakers, which is why I find Phone Speakers Switcher a very useful Extras under the Settings on my Nokia N900. It’s not there by default, one has to download it from the Application Manager.Read More
There is a new Facebook client available for my Nokia N900. It’s currently called Sociality for legal reasons. It was created by Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh | @MohammadAG and it was written in three days, which is quite incredible. If you want to get involved and help pick a name for this application then head over to http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/?p=42 where you can suggest a name. Remember the words “face” and “book” are not allowed to be used. Alternatively visit [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt over at Maemo.org.Read More
The Meego Coding Competition started on the 1st April 2011 and will run through to the 30th June 2011. The idea behind the competition is to get like minded Maemo/Meego enthusiasts together to share ideas and to write or code new applications for the upcoming Meego devices, including my Nokia N900. How can YOU get involved? Well, I for one love my Nokia N900 because there are thousands of great applications available for free, added to that an excellent Maemo/Meego community that offers great support. These good people have taken up a lot of their time to write great applications and so for me it’s all about giving back by donating money to the people that really deserve it. This competition is no exception. For those of us who are not programmers or developers by day or night, we can still make the competition great by donating money towards the competition prize fund. The organisers have setup a PayPal fund. Note: if you are a member of the talk.maemo.org – you can leave your username on the PayPal payment screen. There is a link named “Meego Coding Competition 2011“, which opens a small text box and you are able to add your username to it. That way the organisers can add you to the donation list. How to enter the competition? To enter, please submit your application via the...Read More
Taking a screenshot normally means pressing Ctrl+Shift+P together, which is not too bad when one has the phone in the default horizontal mode with the keyboard out. But how many of you have tried taking a portrait screenshot? I was trying out the latest CSSU Maemo update (PR 22.214.171.124-8), which offers the portrait task manager with background image. As you can see it works really well, but getting this shot on my Nokia N900 was not easy…Read More
I recently installed the latest version of NITDroid N11 “Vostok” on my Nokia N900. It is Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 port released by Alex Roslyakov (@drunkdebugger | e-yes). There have been a number of versions prior to this one, but each one improves on the last and this one is no exception. I found all the information over on the Maemo.org forum, specifically the “Nitdroid easy install on Emmc” page is very useful. I recommend visiting Alex’s thread for the change log, or catch him on his website.Read More
The news on the forums at talk.maemo.org is that a Meego version will be rolling out a RC1 version very soon followed by RC2, RC3, RC4 a week a part and there will be a final version released on the 28th April. The thread is quite long with various people moaning about the lack of news from Nokia, but the video below is quite pleasing.
It is still early days or Nokia are not showing us everything.
Roll on April 28th 2011. Just a pity (not) that I will be sunning myself on a Jamaican beach in the Caribbean. and won’t be able to install it on my Nokia N900.Read More
Here are my latest desktops for my Nokia N900. I currently have 9 desktops active, although I am only using 6 of them. The rest are for eye candy. I have chosen a military aircraft theme because of the air strikes that are currently taking place over Libya. The military have such awesome flying machines and these photos compliment the the desktop of the N900. Isn’t it a shame the Android or iPhone cannot display multiple backgrounds?Read More
