OMG it’s HUGE!

“Oh my god it’s huge!”, are the five words I hear whenever I pull my latest mobile phone out of my pocket, but hey I am no stranger to huge phones. If I think back to when I had my Nokia N900 everyone saw it as a huge brick phone. It weighed 180g, which was a lot heavier than most mobiles on the market at the time, but I didn’t care, and today it is the same. My new mobile is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which will explain why those five words are said a lot to me. Doing a comparison post of the two smartphones would be a waste of time as the only thing in common is the weight and both have a stylus pen, but that is where the similarities end. If you want to find out more about the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from my point of you, please visit my website www.OMGitsHUGE.com (safe for all...

An OSU! game called HITS for my Nokia N900.

According to the FAQ page, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is a rhythm game for the Nintendo DS. The game play consists of only three elements: tapping circles on the touch-screen, dragging a ball across a fixed path and rotating a spinner very fast. All these elements are timed to (covers of) popular Japanese songs.

Solution for failed Nokia N900 catalogues.

If you are trying to get into the repository catalogs but can’t, it is because there is a known problem. I only found out today much to my frustration. I should have just visited the good folk at talk.maemo.org since they already had a temporary solution in place. In case you have not visited them yet, check out the thread titled [FOR DUMMIES] Add temporary mirrors of repo.maemo.org to N900 by thedead1440. It explains how to get around the problem and offers a whole bunch of mirror sites to the various repository catalogues. I won’t bore you with the details as they are all available on the thread, but if you have being experiencing something similar to the screen shot below then the solution is there.

Neverputt 3D mini-golf on my Nokia N900.

So I have been taking a break from my SGS2 and recently stumbled upon a wonderful 3D game of mini-golf. It is called Neverputt. It was developed by Alberto Mardegan (Mardy). It supports 1 to to 4 players at a time. The idea is simple, get your ball in the hole. It is finger friendly and makes use of the touch screen. The game has many challenges and I am sure if you have played mini golf you will know what I mean. I found a video demo of the game on Mardy’s website.

PokerTH v0.9.4 rocks my Nokia N900.

I have been meaning to write a post for weeks. I have been playing PokerTH on my Samsung Galaxy S2, a game I use to play all the time on my Nokia N900. It rocked, so after updating my N900 recently, I noticed there was a new PokerTH version 0.9.4 by Florian Thauer (floty).

Squeeze my Nokia N900 and send a vibration to a friend.

It seems people are still coming up with new concepts for the Nokia N900. Just this week the Helsinki Institute of Information Technology and Nokia Research showed off their “ForcePhone” idea. Rather than me explain it all, head over to the Technology Review and read the post titled “Squeeze Your Phone, and Send a Loved One a Hug” by Nidhi Subbaraman. It is a good read.

The dailymobile blog has a new writer.

So I have some big news to tell everyone. I have been chosen to write on www.dailymobile.se – They were looking for writers and I thought I can do that, so applied and they asked me to write a 500 word post on anything I like. I wrote about the reasons why I switched from the Nokia N900 to the Samsung Galaxy S II, and they wrote back and asked me to join their team of writers. So I have accepted and so far have two posts on their website. The latest being “Why are wireless Bluetooth over-ear, noise cancelling and in-line microphone headphones so scarce“?

21.2011.38-1Tmaemo1.1 update available for Maemo 5 CSSU.

So I couldn’t stay away from my Nokia N900 . It has been burning a hole in my brain ever since I turned it off for my new Samsung Galaxy S II. But it’s on tonight and after a brief charge I decided to visit the Community SSU/Changelog page to see if anything has been happening and discovered there have been a number of firmware updates since my last update (PR 1.3.3.7-9 update available for Maemo 5 CSSU) with the latest version being 21.2011.38-1Tmaemo1.1 dated 30.11.2011.

That’s all folks!

All good things come to an end. I have spent the last week weighing up the pros and cons of continuing myNokiaN900.com website and in the end the decision was simple. There is no way back to the Nokia N900 after experiencing Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 and the super fast, unbelievably thin, incredibly light, gorgeous AMOLED multi-touch screen and Jack-of-all-trades Samsung Galaxy S II. Trust me, it is impossible to go back.

How to save my Nokia N900?

I have recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S II and to be honest it has blown me away with it’s speed, applications and endless possibilities, so much so that I am wondering whether to continue with myNokiaN900.com website if most or all of my time will be spent with my SGS2. For the first time in over 18 months my N900 spent the day switched off at home.
