Étiquette : Nokia N 900

Nokia Sweden changes the rules for N9 Test Pilot.

For the past few weeks I have been rallying friends, family and colleagues to post a comment or recommendation on my Nokia N9 Test Pilot website. The idea is that I pitch the reason why I should be given the chance to test pilot the N9. My pitch is on the top half of the website, which I believe stands me in a good position because I have a popular website, I am a massive fan of Nokia and the N900 (N9 or N950), I regularly blog, tweet and pasionately motivate people why they should go with a Nokia instead of other brands and willing to make the N9 an even more popular phone with my reviews, blogs and tweets.

There is a wonderful thread over at talk.maemo.org created by ammyt explaining how I can set up the Sense theme on my Nokia N900. Ammyt only recently told us how to install the Sense theme on our NITDroid N900. The guy is incredibly dedicated to the Sense cause.

Do you remember where the Nokia N900 began?

I was just reading about this “possible” Nokia Internet Tablet called TabCo and somehow in amongst all the stories and videos was a reference to a great Maemo video. Do you remember this viral video (the ending is awesome if you have the patience to watch through to the end).

Stockona a Google finance stock market app.

There are a few stock market applications available for my Nokia N900 namely MaeMoney, StockThis and now Stockona (stock owner). Created by Sony123 with help from Tommi Laukkanen (author of Twimgo/Kasvopus/Nelisquare/Newsflow) and the Nokia QT team, this application is somewhat unique because it also offers Finance news.

PR 1.3.3.7-9 update available for Maemo 5 CSSU.

What a lovely surprise I got this morning on my Nokia N900 when I saw the usual yellow flashing notification telling me there was a new update. It was in fact a new Maemo CSSU firmware update. All 19.9MB’s of it. It has been a few weeks since the last firmware PR 1.3.3.7.8, but all updates from the CSSU are welcome.

Nokia N9 video teaser released (Hello MeeGo).

It’s just typical of Nokia to release a video like this. There is not much to see, only glimpses of Maemo-like multi-tasking screens, a QWERTY keyboard (YAY!), a 12MP camera. If this is the new MeeGo, it looks freaking awesome!

MeeGo 1.2 will be released on the 19th of May.

MeeGo 1.2 will be released on the 19th of May 2011 and a few days later it will be available for my Nokia N900. This will happen between the 19th and 25th of May 2011. Not many mobile users these days can boast about three different operating systems available for their Smartphones, but Nokia N900 users certainly can. We have already experienced NITDroid (Android Gingerbread 2.3.4), Maemo 5 and soon Meego 1.2. These are exciting times...

NITDroid – Android Apps everyone should have.

Another night, another chance to load up NITDroid N12 (UMay) – Gingerbread 2.3.4. Coming from Maemo 5 the Application Manager can be quite disasterous if the wrong app in installed, well for the noob in us all , so it’s quite refreshing to scroll through the Android Market, but one soon realizes that the market is a complete mess of hundreds if not thousands of free and pay apps. Unless one knows the name of the app, finding apps can be quite tedious and pointless, so a big thanks goes to a wonderful application called Best Apps Market.

I have been running NITDroid N12 (UMay) – Gingerbread 2.3.4 tonight and noticed I had some applications that needed to be updated. Tapping into the notification area at the top of the screen revealed a very clean and neat ‘My apps’ screen showing the apps that need updating.

Sociality for now is a new Facebook client.

There is a new Facebook client available for my Nokia N900. It’s currently called Sociality for legal reasons. It was created by Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh | @MohammadAG and it was written in three days, which is quite incredible. If you want to get involved and help pick a name for this application then head over to http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/?p=42 where you can suggest a name. Remember the words “face” and “book” are not allowed to be used. Alternatively visit [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt over at Maemo.org.

How to remove the shadows from the icons?

I recently changed my theme to Dark Sky and after I rebooted my Nokia N900 all the icons returned to the former glory of having a shadow around the icon. Some might like the shadow but I prefer to have a clean icon with no shadow and what appears to be a transparent background.
